Two weeks ago, our Federal Councillor Simonetta Sommaruga travelled to India for a working visit. She was accompanied by various representatives of Swiss companies that are active in the energy, cleantech and railway industry.

Ms. Sommaruga’s journey was highly linked to Focus India’s main themes of 2020. Not only did she travel to the Silicon Valley of India, Bangalore, the city that Focus India 2020 will explore as well, but also important topics such as the efficient transformation of mobility and the necessity of adapting to dynamic markets have been addressed.

In Delhi, Ms. Sommaruga met with Raj Kumar Singh, Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy to focus on the restructuring of India’s energy system. In fact, India has already launched one of the world’s largest solar power programmes and is adapting to the dynamic market of the energy industry.

Ms. Sommaruga also met with the Minister of Railways, Mr. Piyush Goyal. By obtaining innovative technologies and a high-quality rolling stock, the Indian government aims to strengthen its railway network by electrifying their railway lines, modernising the train stations, and optimising operations and rail timetables. Hence, India’s government focuses on efficiently transforming its mobility.
